Family Visas

Prospective Marriage (Fiance)

This visa is for engaged couple and allows a person to enter Australia and marry their intended Australian spouse (fiancé) within the visa’s nine (9) month validity period.

Spouse (Partner)

This visa is for those in committed exclusive and genuine relationships. The visa allows a person to come or stay in Australia on the basis of  marriage or de-facto relationship with an Australian citizen or permanent resident partner. These visas are usually processed in two stage , first temporary then permanent. Although in some instances permanent visas may be granted directly.

Parents (non-contributory)

This visa is for a parent who meets the family balance test – usually equal or more children in Australia than overseas. For this visa there is no high second visa application charges but the processing can take up to 35 years to finalise. This option available to qualifying parents in Australia or overseas. If in Australia the main applicant must be of pension age or above.

Parents (Contributory)

This the same as the non-contributory parent category, however, there is a high second visa application charges. Contributory visa applications are processed at a much faster rate the non-contributory class, current processing for this class is under two years.

Dependent Children

Dependent, orphaned or adopted children can be sponsored to join the family in Australia.

Remaining Relative

This visa is for people whose only near relatives are usually resident in Australia and are Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens. The person must be the ONLY relative left outside of Australia. With a cap imposed on these visas the current processing time is over 50 years.

Carer Visas

This visa is available for Australian citizens or permanent resident in need of care or has a relative in need of care to bring other relatives from overseas to provide the needed care that is not available through other relatives or community and welfare organisations in Australia. This visa is capped, and a very limited number is granted each year
