These visas are points tested and by invitations only.

Skilled Independent

This visa allows highly skilled workers. If you wish to apply for this visa, you must first obtain a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation and then lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI).

When you lodge an EOI, the immigration department will screen your profile against others who lodged EOI nominating the same occupation and may then invite you to apply for the visa.

When you receive an invitation to apply for the visa, at that time, you must:

  • be under 45 years of age.
  • nominate an eligible occupation that is included on the current Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) OR the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
  • have your skills assessed by the appropriate Australian skills assessing authority as suitable for your nominated occupation?
  • have competent English.
  • score at least 65 on the relevant points test (which takes into account your age, English competency, qualifications and work experience, amongst other factors)

Skilled NominatedPermanent Visa

This visa allows highly skilled workers nominated by an Australian State or Territory to live and work permanently in Australia. If you wish to apply for this visa, you must first obtain a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation and then lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI).

When you lodge an EOI, all States or Territories will have access to your profile. They, in turn, will invite you to apply for nomination/endorsement. Each State and Territory has it own criteria for nominating prospective migrant.

Once a nomination is successful, you will receive an invitation to apply for the visa, at that time, you must:

  • be under 45 years of age.
  • nominate an eligible occupation that is included on the current Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) OR the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
  • have your skills assessed by the appropriate Australian skills assessing authority as suitable for your nominated occupation?
  • have competent English.
  • score at least 65 on the relevant points test (which takes into account your age, English competency, qualifications and work experience, amongst other factors)

Skilled Regional (provisional)Temporary Visa – State Nominated

This visa allows highly skilled workers nominated by an Australian State or Territory to live and work in specific (usually regional) areas in Australia. If you wish to apply for this visa, you must first obtain a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation and then lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI).

When you lodge an EOI, all States or Territories will have access to your profile. They in turn, will invite you to apply for nomination/endorsement. Each State and Territory has it own criteria for nominating prospective migrant.

  • be under 45 years of age.

Skilled Regional (provisional)Temporary Visa – Family-Sponsored

This visa allows highly skilled workers sponsored by close family members to live and work in specific (usually regional) areas in Australia. If you wish to apply for this visa, you must first obtain a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation and then lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI).

When you receive an invitation to apply for the visa, at that time, you must:

  • be under 45 years of age.
  • nominate an eligible occupation that is included on the current Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) OR the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
  • have your skills assessed by the appropriate Australian skills assessing authority as suitable for your nominated occupation?
  • have competent English.
  • score at least 65 on the relevant points test (which considers your age, English competency, qualifications and work experience, amongst other factors).
  • Sponsored by a close family member.

Skilled Regional Visa – Permanent Residence

To apply for this visa, you must:

  • hold a qualifying visa for at least three before to the visa application as listed below:
    • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa; or
    • Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa.
  • have complied with the conditions of the qualifying visa while in Australia (as detailed above), including any family members holding the same qualifying visa as a dependent
  • lived in a designated regional area for at least three years on a qualifying visa (as detailed above)
  • earned an Australian taxable income of at least the income threshold specified for at least three years while holding your qualifying visa.
  • have functional English or pay the second visa application charge.
  • meet relevant health and character criteria, including any family members holding the same qualifying visa as a dependent
